9 - Classmate Blog Critique
Classmate Blog Critique
Over the course of this class, my understanding of different areas of media has grown through analyzing my classmates' posts. This class has allowed me to learn more about entertainment, technology, and pop culture in ways that I was unaware of before. While everyone in the course has done an incredible job in analyzing mass media, there were two in particular that I found were incredibly well-done.
The first classmate's blog that I want to talk about is Judd Samples'. His ability to choose topics that are personal and interesting to him really stands out within his blog and makes his writing more engaging. One assignment in particular that I thought was extremely well-done was his post on Technology. In this post, he goes into detail on BAHA implants in a way that is very informative and personal to him. I think that his own experiences with the implants made the post all the more notable, and I even learned more about the implants despite knowing that he has them for years.
I also enjoyed seeing the research that went into each of Judd's assignments. He provides numerous links, photos, and videos that go along with the topic that he is covering. These resources make his subject matter more credible and strengthens his writing, while also providing more supplemental information to the reader.
Another classmate's blog that I really enjoyed was Tiffany Wiley's. One thing that stuck out to me about her blog was the format that she used. There were multiple set-up options to her blog, with some of my favorites being snapshot, classic, and magazine. I think that this format makes her blog more interesting to look at and gives it a sort of retro vibe.
One of Tiffany's post that I found extremely interesting was her paper on Lifestyle or Popular Culture. In this post, she talks about fashion trends from the 90s-2000s. I thought that this topic was incredibly original and fascinating. The images and links that she provided throughout the post also helps the reader visualize the fashion trends that were happening during that time period.
Judd and Tiffany's blogs were well-thought out, cohesive, and intriguing to read throughout the semester. They have introduced me to new perspectives on areas of mass media and made me consider new ideas. I don't have any constructive criticism for their blogs because I think that they are already incredibly well-done.
